Effectively Probing Beyond the Standard Model Physics with Wouter Dekens
Precision experiments at low energies can probe beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics to very high energy scales. However, interpreting these measurements requires theoretical predictions for both the SM background and possible BSM contributions. In this talk, I will outline how Effective-Field-Theory (EFT) methods can help make such predictions, focusing on superallowed beta decays and Electric Dipole Moments (EDMs). In the case of beta decays, I will focus on how EFTs can capture the radiative corrections needed for a precise prediction of the SM background and describe the possible BSM contributions. In the case of EDMs, I will focus on measurements of paramagnetic systems. Although these are usually thought of as being sensitive to leptonic CP violation, I will outline how hadronic sources of CP violation can give rise to significant effects as well.
