How Remote Observing is Changing Amateur Astrophotography: St. Louis Astronomical Society December 2026 Meeting

Bray Falls, Starfront Observatories, will be presenting the St. Louis Astronomical Society's December meeting

Dark Skies on Demand: What becomes possible when your telescope can live under reliably dark skies while you control it from home? In this practical presentation, Bray Falls will explore how remote observing is reshaping amateur astrophotography, from overcoming light pollution, weather, and setup constraints to building a more consistent imaging workflow. He will discuss where remote imaging excels, where it does not replace the backyard experience, and what astronomers should consider before taking their equipment remote. Drawing on real-world lessons from operating one of the world’s largest remote observatories, Bray will leave ample time for questions and discussion.

Bray Falls is a co-founder of Starfront Observatories. Best known in the astrophotographer community and social media as @astrobfalls (YouTube, Instagram, X, TikTok), Bray has spent years introducing millions of people to the beauties of the night sky as an astrophotographer and astronomy creator. His work sits at the intersection of astrophotography, telescope operations, and making meaningful dark-sky access more available to people around the world.

The St. Louis Astronomical Society is an organization for individuals interested in astronomy and telescopes. The public is invited to attend its meetings, telescope observing sessions, and special events. For more information about Astronomical Society events, please visit www.slasonline.org.

Free parking will be available.
